Americaâs Got Talent specializes in feel-good stories that depict the triumph of the human spirit. The contestantsâ stories are sometimes even more impressive than their talent.
Ben Waitesâ audition certainly didnât leave a dry eye in the room. Ben rolls on stage in his wheelchair because he is paralyzed.
Ben tells the judges that he is a gospel singer and vocal coach. He chose to sing Cyndi Lauperâs hit âTrue Colors.â Simon Cowell asks: âWhy this song? â
Ben explains his reasoning to Simon, saying, âI believe this song speaks to everyone, regardless of background, race, religion, age. I think it just sends a message of hope.
Heidi asks, âDid you bring someone special here with you today?â He says he brought his wife, mother and grandmother. Simon asks, âDo the people you train know you auditioned? Ben replies, âNo, because when Iâm with them, itâs all about them.â Heidi responds, âAnd now itâs all about you!â Good luck.â
Ben performs the song with excellence and pure emotion. He sings, âI see your true colors showing. I see your true colors, and thatâs why I love you. So donât be afraid to show them off. Your true colors, true colors are beautiful like a rainbow.
At the end, Judge Sofia starts crying. All the judges and the public give him a standing ovation. Benâs audition is a memorable and touching moment on âAGT.â
